How to Make Homemade Strawberry Jam

Here’s everything that you’ll need to know in order to make your own yummy strawberry jam with only 3 ingredients:

  1. Combine the ingredients. Add the hulled and sliced fresh strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice to a heavy-bottomed pot.
  2. Stir. Stir the mixture over low heat until the sugar has dissolved.
  3. Mash. Use a potato masher to mash the strawberries.
  4. Boil. Increase the heat to medium high, and bring to a boil, while continuing to stir constantly. Allow the jam to boil for 10 minutes, or until the jam has thickened to your liking.
  5. Seal. Ladle the jam into sterilized jars and seal immediately.
  6. Store. Store the jam until ready to use.

How to Store Homemade Strawberry Jam

The best way to store homemade strawberry jam like this that hasn’t been canned is in the refrigerator or freezer. Either place in jars and refrigerate, or place it in a freezer ziplock bag and pop in in the freezer.

How Long Does Homemade Jam Last?

Due to the fact that the strawberries are cooked with sugar and lemon juice to reduce the moisture content in your jam, you can reasonably expect this homemade jam recipe to keep for 1 month in the fridge, and 12 months in the freezer.

This homemade refrigerator strawberry jam recipe is so yummy! It only needs 3 ingredients and there's no canning required.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Servings: 4 cups


  • 2 pounds fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 4 cups sugar
  • ¼ cup lemon juice


  • Add the strawberries, sugar and lemon juice to a heavy-bottomed pot.
  • Stir over low heat until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Use a potato masher to mash the strawberries.
  • Increase the heat to medium high, and bring to a boil, while stirring. 
  • Boil for 10 minutes, stirring constantly or until the jam is thickened. 
  • Ladler into sterilized jars and place directly in the fridge or in a freezer-safe ziplock bag in the freezer.
