What We Love About This Strawberry Basil Lemonade

  • Customize all you want: This recipe allows you to control the sweetness and adjust the individual components, providing a personalized touch that store-bought options often lack.
  • Fresh and preservative-free: You’ll be using real strawberries, lemons, and basil, steering clear of any artificial additives that are present in many store-bought lemonades.
  • Wonderfully balanced: I made sure that everything is perfectly balanced, nothing too strong or overpowering. You’ll taste the sweetness of the strawberries, the tartness of the lemon juice, and of course, the herbal notes of the basil in each sip.

Strawberry Basil Lemonade Ingredients

  • Granulated Sugar: Granulated sugar provides the necessary sweetness to balance out the tartness of the lemon juice and strawberries.
  • Lemon Juice: The freshly squeezed lemon juice has a bright and zesty flavor and will serve as the lemonade base for this recipe.
  • Strawberries: Strawberries add a sour-sweet element, as well as a vibrant red hue to this lemonade.
  • Fresh Basil: The basil complements the sour-sweet strawberries and the tartness of the lemon juice, while adding a subtle, fragrant component.

  5. Stir everything well. Serve over ice.

Make Ahead and Freezing Instructions:

  • To make ahead: Prepare the lemonade, making sure not to add any ice to the mixture. Refrigerate the mixture in a covered container for at least a few hours or overnight to allow the flavors to infuse.
  • To freeze: Pour the prepared lemonade into ice trays for up to two months. Let the ice trays thaw in the refrigerator before serving, or simply blend up the ice cubes in a high-powered blender before serving.

Recipe Variations

  • Sparkling Water: Add sparkling water instead of still water to create a strawberry basil sparkling lemonade.
  • Mint Leaves: Add fresh mint leaves for a delightful minty undertone that pairs well with the fresh basil.
  • Cucumber Slices: For a cooling effect, add thinly sliced cucumber to complement the sweetness of the strawberries.
  • Honey: Adjust the sweetness level with a dash of honey or even agave syrup.
  • Coconut Water: Add a tropical twist by replacing some of the water with coconut water.
