What Can I Use Instead of Sweetened Condensed Milk?
If you don’t have sweetened condensed milk at home, you can always make your own because it’s such a simple recipe. Here’s how:
- Combine the milk and sugar. Start by combining the milk and sugar in the saucepan. Stir until the sugar has dissolved completely.
- Boil. Once the sugar has dissolved, bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat. Stir occasionally so that it doesn’t burn.
- Simmer. Once the mixture starts to boil, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about an hour, or until it has thickened. Stir occasionally.
- Strain the milk. Once the milk has thickened, strain it through a strainer into the jar or container you’re using to store it. Discard any solids that are left behind.
- Cool. Let the condensed milk cool completely before sealing the jar or container and storing it in the fridge.
