Homemade Lavender Lotion to Get Rid of Stress and Keep Yourself Calm
Have you been feeling stressed out as of late? Sometimes life certainly does have a way of creeping up on us. Before you let your stress get too out of hand, take a moment to take a deep breath and then check out this genius recipe. It makes a homemade lavender lotion that works perfectly to get rid of stress and keep yourself calm.
The reason why this recipe is so effective is because it uses an incredible mix of soothing ingredients that all work in tandem to help your body to relax when you apply this lotion. You’ll be using a mix of apricot kernel oil, coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax, and lavender essential oil.
Using apricot kernel oil in this lotion recipe makes sure that it’s still a solid choice for a moisturizing lotion as well. This type of oil is packed with a variety of beneficial chemical constituents, including omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids.
These essential fatty acids all provide a huge range of benefits for your health, including relieving inflammation, soothing joint pain, boosting the immune system, and providing antioxidative protection. Apricot kernel oil also contains moderate amounts of both vitamin A and vitamin E, both of which work amazingly well for moisturizing dry skin and smoothing out unwanted skin blemishes. (1)
Coconut oil is another great ingredient to add into the mix when making your own homemade lotion as well. Not only has coconut oil been found to help treat acne and reduce inflammation in the skin, but one study actually found that it was just as effective as mineral oil at improving skin hydration. (2)
Shea butter is yet another smart ingredient choice that provides some excellent benefits for your skin. Like apricot kernel oil, it’s packed full of vitamins and essential fatty acids. The tree-nut oils found in shea butter can create a soft barrier in your skin that locks in moisture for hours. (3)
The beeswax is included because it’s yet another ingredient that offers fantastic benefits when it comes to your skin health. Even though beeswax is poorly tolerated when ingested by humans, it has tons of topical benefits. Much like shea butter, beeswax can help to lock moisture into your skin by forming a protective barrier over top of it. On top of that, beeswax can also attract moisture while allowing your skin to absorb essential water molecules, further helping to keep your skin hydrated. (4)
Last but certainly not least are the 10 drops of lavender essential oil. This is where the stress relieving benefits of this homemade lotion finally come into play. There have been numerous studies done that have shown that lavender provides numerous benefits for the human nervous system. One particular study actually found that the anti-anxiety benefits of lavender were greater than those of a placebo in patients who suffer from anxiety disorders. (5)
In addition to the anti-anxiety benefits, lavender essential oil may also help to promote sleep and help with insomnia. (6) A chronic lack of sleep is one of the biggest causes of stress and anxiety for many individuals, many of whom respond favorably to aromatherapy treatment with lavender essential oils.
When you add all of these things together (along with a bit of water), you end up with one pretty remarkable homemade lotion recipe. It provides you with an incredible one-two punch combo by helping to moisturize dry, sensitive skin while also working wonders when it comes to helping you to de-stress after a long day.
I highly recommend giving this recipe a try whenever you start to feel like the daily pressures are starting to get to be a bit too much. One of the best things about this homemade lotion recipe is how quick and easy it is to make. Whenever you’re feeling stressed, you can whip up a batch of this in only about 10 minutes.
Before we wrap things up with this recipe, I thought it might be helpful to spend a few moments going over some of the most frequently asked questions that I often get in regards to this lotion. Without further ado:
Can You Suggest Any Other Lavender Recipes with Similar Benefits?
When most people approach me to ask about recipes that are similar to this one, they’re usually looking for something else that they can use to help them cope with their anxiety and stress. The moisturizing aspect of the lotion doesn’t matter to them, so with that in mind, the following recipes from around the web that I’m about to share are all based around using lavender for similar purposes:
- Sparkling Lavender Lemonade (Oh So Delicioso)
- Lavender Lemon Cake Cookies (A Little Claireification)
- Lavender & Vanilla Milk Hot Chocolate (The Kitchen McCabe)
- Lavender Popcorn with Lavender Essential Oil (Country Hill Cottage)
- Delicious and Refreshing Lemon Lavender Martini (All that’s Jas)
How Soon After Applying This Lotion Will I Notice Results?
As far as stress relief goes, you should be able to notice a calming effect quite rapidly after putting the lotion on. The lavender essential oil aroma hits pretty quickly, and you should notice your stress levels going down within the next few minutes.
Unfortunately, this homemade lavender lotion isn’t exactly a quick overnight fix when it comes to skin conditions. However, with consistent daily use, you should be able to notice some pretty remarkable results within the first week or so of use.
Is This Lavender Lotion Safe to Apply on the Face?
If you’re planning on using this lavender lotion on your face, then I highly recommend starting with a small amount and giving it a few minutes to see how you respond to it.
While the majority of the ingredients used in this recipe are packed with beneficial properties for your skin, lavender essential oil may have a bit of a drying effect in some rare cases.
There’s no way to tell how the skin on your face will respond to this lotion until you try it for yourself. Just start with a little bit at a time and it shouldn’t be a problem.
