At room temperature, a cantaloupe will typically last for 5 to 7 days before starting to spoil. However, if you place it in the fridge, it can last for up to 10 days.

How to Tell If a Cantaloupe Is Ripe

- Stem- If cantaloupe was picked too soon, it will still have steam on. Ripe cantaloupe with have smooth steam area.
- Smell- A perfectly ripe cantaloupe emanates a fragrant, sweet, vaguely musky scent.
- Firm to the Touch- The surface of the cantaloupe should be firm like a pineapple.
- Feels heavy for their size- The melon should feel heavier than it looks.
- Color- The rind should be tan with a pale yellow color between the netting. Pick the cantaloupe that dose not have discoloration, mold or other signs of damage
