Homemade Garlic Knots

Instructions

  1. In a bowl of stand mixer fitted with a dough hook combine the water, yeast and sugar. 
  2. Let stand for 5 minutes. 
  3. In another bowl combine the flour, garlic powder and salt. 
  4. Add the olive oil to the bowl of stand mixer.
  5. While the mixer is running, add the flour mixture slowly. 
  6. Beat on low speed for 5 minutes. 
  7. Lightly grease a large bowl with extra olive oil. 
  8. Transfer the dough into the bowl. 
  9. Cover with plastic wrap and leave to rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size. 
  10. Preheat oven to 400ºF.
  11. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. 
  12. Punch the dough. 
  13. Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. 
  14. Shape the dough into 16×5 inch large loaf. 
  15. Cut the log into 16 equal pieces.
  16. Roll each piece into 8 inch long rope. 
  17. Tie each rope into a knot. 
  18. Transfer the knots on the prepared baking sheet. 
  19. Let rise for 30 minutes. 
  20. In a small bowl combine the butter, garlic and parsley. 
  21. Brush the knots with half of garlic butter. 
  22. Bake in preheated oven for 20-23 minutes or until golden. 
  23. Remove from the oven and brush the knots with remaining garlic butter. 
  24. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan (if using) and serve warm.
