How to Make French Toast Casserole
- Prep the Casserole. Grease a 9×13 dish with butter. Add cubed bread. Whisk milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt, then pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight.




- Add the Topping. Preheat oven to 350°F. Mix melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Drizzle over chilled casserole.



- Bake and Serve. Bake 45–50 minutes until golden and set. Cool slightly before serving warm.

Storage, Reheating and Freezing Instructions

Overnight French Toast Casserole

Ingredients
For the casserole:
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 pound day-old brioche or challah bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 cups milk
- 6 large eggs
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp salt
For the topping:
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- pinch of salt
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with the 3 tbsp butter.
- Add the cubed bread to the dish and spread it evenly.
- In a bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
- Pour the custard over the bread, pressing it down gently so the bread soaks it up.
- Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight (at least 8 hours).
- In the morning, preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Remove the casserole from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature while the oven heats.
- In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt for the topping.
- Drizzle the topping over the casserole.
