How to Make Homemade Dried Apricots
Making your own dried apricots at home is ridiculously easy. Here’s how:
- Prepare the apricots. Remove dark spots, then soak apricots in lemon juice and water for 5 minutes. Pat dry.

- Arrange. Gently press each apricot half inside out and place them skin-side down on a dehydrator tray (if you don’t own a dehydrator, scroll down further to see how to make dried fruit in the oven).

- Dehydrate and store. Dehydrate at 135ºF for 24 hours, then let cool and store in an airtight container.

How Long Do Dried Apricots Last?
Generally, homemade dried apricots can last up to six months when stored in an airtight container.
However, this can vary depending on the ripeness and freshness of the apricots prior to drying, the type of drying method used, and the storage conditions of the dried fruit.

Can I Make Dried Fruit Without a Dehydrator?
Yes, you can definitely make dried fruit without a dehydrator. Although dehydrators are handy and speed up the drying process, there’s an alternative method that you can try.
- Preheat oven and prepare fruit: Preheat the oven to its lowest temperature and slice fruit into even, thin pieces.
- Arrange and bake: Place fruit in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake, checking and flipping occasionally, until dried.
- Cool and store: Let the fruit cool completely, then transfer to an airtight container.
