What is Fruit Leather?

A fruit leather is a dehydrated fruit product that is made by blending fruits into a puree, which is then spread onto a flat surface or dehydrator tray to dry.

The drying process removes all the moisture from the fruit, leaving behind a concentrated and chewy final product that can be stored and enjoyed for many weeks. Fruit leather is an ideal snack for people who are constantly on-the-go or looking for a healthy alternative to sugary snacks.

Notes

Are Fruit Leathers Healthy?
Fruit leathers are made entirely from pureed fruits, which means they contain plenty of vitamins, minerals, and fiber but without any added sugars or preservatives.
Additionally, because the fruit is dried to create the leather texture, this snack is a great way to enjoy the benefits of fresh fruit without the risk of it spoiling.
Why Is My Blackberry Fruit Leather Cracking?
If you find that your fruit blackberry fruit leather is cracking, it boils down to moisture levels. If the blackberry fruit leather is spread too thinly or dried for too long, it could crack.
Also, the leather should be stored in an airtight container to help maintain its moisture.
Why Is My Blackberry Fruit Leather Sticky?
Conversely, if you find that your blackberry fruit leather is too sticky and hard to peel off the mat, it’s because there is too much moisture in the fruit leather. Simply let it dry for a little longer or take a closer look at the moisture levels in your kitchen.
Why Is My Blackberry Fruit Leather Like Hard Candy?
Blackberry fruit leather can turn out like hard candy if it has too little moisture or too dehydrated. This can make it brittle and hard, instead of flexible and pliable. Simply reduce the drying time or lower the temperature slightly.
