Basil Pesto Hummus Ingredients

  • Chickpeas – Canned chickpeas will do. Make sure it’s been drained and rinsed with water to get rid of any residual salt from the brine.
  • Basil – Fresh basil is used to make the pesto in this hummus.
  • Parmesan Cheese – Parmesan cheese is essential to making good pesto, and it also helps add an umami flavor to the hummus.
  • Seasoning – Add salt to taste.
  • Garlic – Some minced garlic helps add another savory element to the dish.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Extra virgin olive oil helps to thin the mixture and makes the hummus smoother.
  • Lemon Juice – Some lemon juice helps cut through the richness of the oil and cheese and brings some acidity to the dish.

  • Add some cheese: Add freshly grated Parmesan cheese and toasted pine nuts to the hummus for a richer and nuttier taste.
  • Add more herbs to your pesto: Experiment with other herbs like parsley and dill to give this recipe a more varied flavor profile.
