How to Make Oatmeal Applesauce Cookies

  1. Make the dry mix: Add the flour, baking powder, oats, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon to a bowl and stir to combine.

  2. Prepare the wet mix: Add the butter, sugar, brown sugar, applesauce, vanilla, and egg to another bowl and whisk to combine.
  3. Create the dough: Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture and stir to combine. Fold in the chocolate chips.

  4. Shape the cookies: Scoop the dough into one-and-a-half tablespoon-sized balls. Place the applesauce cookie dough balls on the prepared sheets, leaving enough space for them to spread. Lightly flatten each dough ball with the palm of your hand.

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 cups quick oats
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • Add the flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon to a bowl and stir to combine.
  • Add the butter, sugar, brown sugar, applesauce, vanilla and egg to another bowl and whisk to combine.
  • Add the flour mixture and stir to combine.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips.
  • Scoop the dough into 1 ½ tablespoon-sized balls.
  • Place the balls on baking sheets lined with parchment paper.
  • Lightly press each ball.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 10 – 12 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely.
  • Freeze the cookies in a single layer on the baking sheet until they’re firm.
  • Transfer the frozen cookies to freezer bag labeled with the date and the contents.
